While I love the live aspects of music and audio, the studio is an important part of my journey through audio. As a student I have taken extensive courses covering recording, editing, and mixing. I have experienced with a host of microphone techniques traditional or otherwise and always am interested how technology new and old interact to shape and flavor the sonic art that is created.
In the spring of 2024, a couple friends on campus had a band that they had been playing small gigs around campus and decided that they were going to record an album. Andrew Vandenberghe, Shea Thorpe, and Will Seastrand made up the band. I asked if they needed any help and ended up becoming the recording and mix engineer for the project. Blending flavors of metal, some jazz, and a variety of other influences, the album was an extremely fun project to work on, and a project on which I learned a lot about how to approach the production and mixing of a full album as opposed to just a song.
I love live concerts, whether behind the stage or on the stage there is always such a sense of catharsis that comes with them. As someone who has played guitar for over 10 years and bass for almost 5, concerts are an important part to my musical journey. Incorporating what I know as an audio engineer and technology lover allows me to elevate the performance and always improve the logistics around it.
