Mixing bands and concerts is among my favorite things to do. As a musician and audio nerd, the ability to combine all those skills together when mixing makes me feel like I am able to apply my knowledge and produce my best work. At the University of Rochester I am the technical director for a campus music club and the student performance venue, coupled with my job for campus events, there are no shortage of opportunities for me to setup, run, and coordinate performances. Whether mixing front of house, monitors, putting together patch sheets and system diagrams, to the simple power point or high profile speaker, I always try to do better than before and constantly look for new learning experiences as I work.
The job doesn't stop when there's no console in front of me, in fact it usually starts weeks before. As technical director, it is up to me to bridge the gap between the performers and the rest of the tech crew. To do this I'll craft up patch sheets, system diagrams, and orchestration per song documentation, all in service of the production.
